Details:

What do carwash attendants, football quarterbacks, and families ordering pizza have in common? All use performance support to get the job done. What is performance support? When should we use it? How does it help us move from knowledge in the classroom to knowledge everywhere? What does technology add to the humble print job aid? Don't you need a million dollars and programming skills to build performance support? In this workshop, participants will learn from plenty of real-world examples and vivid sample cases to see performance support in action and how it fits with other interventions.

Participants should bring an example of an opportunity for performance improvement from their own work or life. They will use a performance support tool for performance support to identify the advantages and gotchas of performance support for their particular situation.

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe what performance support is and how it can contribute to improving individual and organizational performance

  •  Define planner and sidekick performance support

  • Determine which types of performance support to use in given situations, and how to use performance support as one aspect in a blended solution

  • Explain when a humble job aid will do and when technology will add to success

  • See a software tool in action for developing performance support

  • Describe strategies for successful implementation of performance support as part of a larger system.

Program:
P.O.P.S – Process, Outcomes, Proficiency Scales -- CANCELLED
Details:

Are you grappling with the dual need to develop organizational and learning interventions at high speed and provide executives with real data about the success of those interventions?  Do you need to:

  • Connect your interventions to real work,

  • Quickly show current state of your audiences’ skills

  • Show change in skill after the intervention

  • Show change that transfer back to the individual’s workplace?

If so, you need P.O.P.S,

Outcomes are points in process where your audience’s skills come together to delivery a decision or consumable.  Using a clear outcome statement, you can generate a series of statements that show increasing proficiency in that outcome.  Ordered to show seven distinct levels of advancement, these proficiency indicator statements become a Proficiency Scale.  (Based on the Taxonomy of Proficiency.)

Proficiency scales can be used as self-assessment questionnaires or as other assessment rubrics.  Since they are focused on demonstrated work activities, individuals assessing themselves or others have factual statements about real work expectations.

When the process changes, outcomes may change and the proficiency scale changes.  Editing proficiency scales is easy.  Reassessing an audience based on changes in outcomes and required proficiency allows HPT professionals to focus their next intervention on actual needs of their experienced audience.  POPS also provides tools to support the use of HPT standards.

     Outcomes

After participating in this workshop you will be able to:

  • Create outcomes from process flows

  • Build Proficiency Scales

  • Build assessments based on Proficiency Scales

  • Report on changes in audience proficiency over time

Change Partners -- CANCELLED
Details:

Are you tasked with creating change?  Would you like to strengthen your change management skills?

Perhaps you have noticed that some people embrace change, others wait for the majority before they accept a change and still others actively resist change.  Have you ever wondered why this happens or how to use it to make your change initiatives smoother?  Would you like to be better able to motivate these different motivation types?  If so, come experience Change Partner©.

Change Partners© is a group dialog process much like MBTI, HBDI, etc.  This dialog focuses entirely on individual’s change preferences.  You will discover:

  • Six change groups and what motivates them

  • Your own change preference profile, its strengths and blind spots

  • When and how to engage others in change so that they help fill your blind spots

  • How to listen to others talk about change and hear their motivations

  • Key questions to ask to find out more about what motivates someone whose change partner profile is significantly different from yours

  • How diversity in Change Partner profiles strengths a change team

Ms. Gander created the Change Partners© in response to a need for more information about what motivates people to respond differently to change.  Change Partners© has been tested on more than 3000 people between 1986 and 1996.  This workshop is the first reintroduction of this tool.

     Outcomes

After participating in this workshop you will be able to:

  • See change coming

  • Communicate more effectively about coming changes

  •  Leverage your Change Partners© profile when motivating others to   change

Exploring the Performance Pyramid, presented by Dr. John Wedman, Professor and Director School of Information, Science and Learning Technologies, University of Missouri-Columbia

Improving performance can be as challenging as unlocking the secrets of an ancient pyramid. If you only had a blueprint of the pyramid, you might have a chance.

While archeologists are busy exploring the ancient pyramids, professionals across the country are using the Performance Pyramid as a blueprint to guide their performance improvement efforts. Consisting of a simple model and set of data-gathering tools, the Performance Pyramid unlocks the secrets of good performance and guides the needs assessment process.

Dr. Wedman will be our guide to exploring this tool, which was created in the mid-90’s to help understand why some training programs were not producing the desired results. Come learn how the pyramid works and how you can apply it and its essential tools to your initiates.
